A friend of mine and I were discussing 4th of July plans and she mentioned that there were actually 2 Independence Days. She said that she did not know the dates or specifics behind it, only that it involved the freedom of slaves when the Civil War was won. I decided to go on a fact finding mission and that is what lead me here. I have now found thru your Juneteenth information and the site it links to that not only was she right, but that there was actually more to the story than even she had known. My biggest question is how did I go all the way through grammar school, high school and college living most of my life just outside Atlanta and NEVER hear about this!?!? Is main stream education and media actually REALLY that biased and predjudiced? or is it just plain general lack of knowledge and awareness? I would welcome anyone’s input on this. I am truly a mixture of disgusted and amazed.

I just could not depart your web site prior to letting you know that I extremely enjoyed my visit. Best of luck with the site. The internet could use more sites like this.

Appreciating the dedication you put in to the site and in depth articles you provide… It is nice to come across a site once in a while that isn’t the same old rehashed material. Fantastic info… I have saved your site and I am including it on my FB page.

Thank you for another informative visit to your site. I’ve been here a few times and each time I find a new area or article to check out and it is always a good read: informative but definitely not dry. Thank you!

After studying a number of the articles and posts in your website now I truly believe this is one of the best sites I have ever seen where our people and culture are portrayed as exactly what they are: OVERCOMERS!! I bookmarked it and shall be checking back soon.

Your website is very cool. I am impressed by the variety of people and topics you choose to cover. You, my friend, ROCK! What an ideal web-site!

You can definitely see your genius for finding a niche and taking it to the top. More people both of color and not need to read the content you provide. Perhaps those of us of color will begin to take pride in from whom and whence we came and those not of color will respect us for our capacity to move forward as individuals even when at times the cards are stacked against us.

I’m just genuinely enjoying your design and the over all concept of this site. It’s simple, though great. Very often it can be very difficult to get that balance between usability along with visual appeal and entertainment along with truly informational. Additionally, your blog loads extremely quickly, especially in light of how many graphics there are. Which by the way are in themselves worth coming to the site. Outstanding! Definitely 5 stars!

You have sparked much thought for your readers with your use of impressive informational and entertaining material. I am in full agreement with all of the other happy readers that have taken time to leave comments here. I am so happy I came across your site. Thank you for creating such a positive repository of information.

I’m impressed, I need to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a site that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Your concept is outstanding; our culture and heritage are things that are just not expressed in an intelligent way very often. I’m very pleased to have found this site and will be recommending it to others.

I heard about this site through a friend that forwarded me a link to your article on Civil Rights and Civil Wrongs. You now have another dedicated reader. I am looking forward to more insightful articles like this.

  • Truth-B-Told says:

This sort of clever work is just what it will take to get some people to actually stop and learn a little about where they come from and what we have accomplished both as individuals and as a people. It’s a history and culture lesson cleverly disguised as entertainment. What a concept! IF only our schools could take a lesson from this maybe our children would pay a little more attention in history class.

Youre so cool! I dont suppose Ive read anything like this before. So nice to find a site with such an original concept. Thank you for starting this up. Maybe… just maybe… there is hope for the internet being something more than a place for the big networks to dump their biased trash and shameful promotion of terrible role models!

I take pleasure in studying articles that will make myself and other individuals think. Additionally, thanks for allowing me to comment! So many sights have closed the conversation with their readers. It is nice to know there are still those like you that want to hear what we have to say.

    • Admin says:

We will always be interested in what our readers have to say. It is your comments and suggestions that let us know what we are doing right and what we could do better. Our readers keep us on track and we would not be the publication we are today without you and readers like you. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all of our readers that take time to comment and give us feedback. You are invaluable and WE ARE LISTENING!!

  • Shanna says:

Hello Admin, I don’t normally leave comments, but I felt compelled to acknowledge the amzing slide show you have on your home page and let you know what happened. I was surfing online and my teenage son was sitting beside me waiting not so patiently to use the computer. When I opened up the site the image that loaded up in the slideshow was of a bus depot from the old days. He immediately spotted the signage in the picture and commented on it. This sparked an entire discussion about our freedoms today vs the constraints at that time on African Americans. We really connected and I was blessed to realize for the first time just how mature he has become. Thank you for being a catalyst to such a meaningful conversation.
