I realize I’m plowing already furrowed fields, but the fact that whether or not we should honor a date that represents so many of our nation’s people being granted the basic human right of freedom is a disgrace to a country that promotes its self as a leader in the fight for human rights in the modern world. Juneteenth, without question or hesitation, should have been placed on our calendars and taught the significance of it to our children starting in grade school when they are coloring pages of Abraham Lincoln. After all, how can what Aabraham Lincoln accomplished as a president be truly understood without reference to the completion of his vision of a truly free nation. Some say that slavery is too negative to discuss with children. I challenge this notion with one question: “How is the freedom from slavery too negative, yet the assination (murder) of a president is not?” DO SOMETHING TODAY TO CORRECT THIS!
