A friend of mine forwarded a wonderful newsletter that you had sent her. The newsletter it self was interesting. I so love historical facts and trivia like the extinct black township that was in it. After seeing the site I just had to sign up for the newsletter myself and I just wish to thank you for this glorious read!! I positively enjoyed each little bit of it and I have you bookmarked. Regards, Janice
I try to leave a comment whenever I like a site and I loved this one. It is such a great mix of “then and now”. We and our world are a product of who came before us. The more we know about who they were, what they did and why the better we will understand what we need to do today. Thank you for the amazing images (some of them were a trip down memory lane for me) and the interesting articles.
I tend not to drop many comments, but i did some searching and wound up here at Our Heritage Magazine. I like the cultural feel of the articles. I especially appreciate the travel articles that I have found since I started visiting here. I had never even heard of The Heritage Trail before. Now I have started looking into the possibility of taking my family on a cultural vacation this year. Thank you for the service you provide our culture.
Not every one who comes to a site like this is looking for the exact same thing. Culture and heritage mean different things to differing people. I like that I can find both current cultural concerns and historic cultural information and figures here. Definitely one of the most unique sites I have ever been to.
I just wanted to applaud you for honoring Mr. Evers. I unfortunately did not know about the ship ceremonies until recently and am appalled to find how little documentation on it there is. I fail to understand why it was not more publicly announced and recognized. Thank you for preserving and presenting this information honoring a man who was willing to give his life in order to move our country towards true equality.
Recently found your site through my research into Juneteenth. I think it is magnificent the way that you present our past and present as African Americans. The images and the stories are unique and so is the over all feel of the site. I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring your site and will be back often. Thank you!
I recently came across an edition of your magazine that was from this past summer while waiting for an appointment. I was struck by the images in it when I flipped through the pages, but being a native of San Antonio what really caught my attention was a feature on Charles Williams. Now that I have seen your site I must say I am really impressed. So much media attention is given to the politicians and the hollywood crowd it is refreshing to see stories on real people that are making a difference in people’s lives and their communities. Thank you for providing a quality source of positive stories. We all need to be reminded that no matter where we come from there is always a way to make a difference just like Mr. Williams. May you attain much success!
After reading Rosana’s comment felt the need to comment as well. Even though I myself have never been in the military I have loved ones who have and I have the upmost respect for those that have served and are serving. Especially in these uncertain times. I too think it is a statement as to the true dedication of this publication to honoring our men and women who have or are serving our country that you have dedicated an entire section of your site to them. I would also like to add that I personally enjoy your articles on places to visit and the cultural things available in them. All our kids are grown and have their own family vacations and I myself don’t get to travel much. However, I have sent the article on Richmond to them as it is only a half days drive from my oldest son and his family. Thank you for your integrity, your support of our service people and your efforts to keep our history and culture alive.
Please do not think I am spamming you for leaving my lengthy comment both on your home page and on the veterans’ page, but I love the entire section veterans section and I want to bring it to everyone who visits attention that they need to view it. It is so nice to see that someone besides the VA remembers our country’s veterans more than just on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. I realize that there are several organizations and individuals that are there to help us all year round. To those people I am VERY GRATEFUL! But the media in general has little to no interest except during those two times.
You on the other hand have an entire section dedicated to us and not only do you post interesting and helpful tips and information, but you actually pay tribute to us year around. I love the salute to us in the magazine that my friend just showed me it was absolutely stunning! I also loved the article on the Gold star Wives, they have been a great comfort to many of my friends who lost their loved ones in service to our country and more people need to be aware of their great work. Then last, but certainly not least there is the story on Sgt Early which was very humbling and yet inspiring. These 3 things combined are what brought me to the site in the first place today and after seeing your veterans section I just had to let you and everyone else know how much we veterans appreciate being remembered. THANK YOU! – Rosana Petrark, SFC
I rarely leave a response, but after reading several of the articles here and admiring the vibrant images I wanted to recommend to everyone that they explore this site. It is so unique. I have manually shared it on my facebook, but was wondering if you will be integrating a way to share more easily with our friends? Thank you for an amazing experience. George Bustead
I live in San Antonio and was at the VA getting some medical things taken care of yesterday when I came across your magazine. I was so impressed that I visited you on my phone while I was waiting and now have had the pleasure of viewing it on my home computer. The mobile version was impressive, but there is just no way to see how amazing these images are on a phone screen. I am a visual person and I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed these images. This slideshow is simply amazing! Thank you for sharing them.
A big part of my job involves research so I spend quite a bit of my time online and viewing website after website. After a while you get to where they all look the same and you don’t even notice all the bells and whistles and images that are on the sites you visit. So when I come across a site that actually snaps me out of my complacency and holds my interest it is a pleasant surprise. THUMBS UP for to you for your engaging site! I love the images and truly appreciate the variety of topics I have found.
I found you through yahoo’s search engine and felt compelled to let you know how unique your site really is. I came in search of information. I stayed because I was entertained. Information that is entertaining what a rare thing! Keep it up I have you saved in my bookmarks and will definitely be back.
I almost never leave a response, however I wanted to just say that I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the site. I have never been to a site quite like this. I am a staunch supporter of Juneteenth becoming a national holiday because I think it will help bring awareness to the fact that there is much in the way of history that is just not taught in school. More publications and sources of entertaining ways to learn about these things is needed. Thank you for helping to bridge the gap.
As a long time researcher into my family’s history and roots I want to say that I appreciate the awareness you are bringing to the heroes that are in all of our pasts. People need to know and remember where they came from in order to better appreciate where they are and what they have.
I just want to thank you for the entertaining way in which you put forth historically accurate and important information. It is much easier to get young people, like my son, to take an interest in our cultural history and heritage when it is presented with impactful images and the wording and phrasing is such that you don’t have to have a master’s degree to understand what it says. All of the articles are easy to read and comprehend, as well as encourage personal thought. It is important for us to communicate to young people the significance of our history and in order to do that effectively we have to meet them where they are at. Today that means on the internet and with vivid images and content that is alive if we are going to keep their interest. I also appreciate the ease of navigation through the site. I am not extremely adept with computers or the internet, but you are easy to get to and navigating around your site is a breeze.Thank you for all of the above and keep up the good work!
I’ve recently started a blog on African American History and I have noted your site as a reference on several of my posts. Most recently I sited your Kwanzaa story. It is absolutely the most thorough presentation of KWANZAA that I found ANYWHERE on the internet!!!!! Thank you for providing such a great resource! I know that there are many of us who appreciate it!
I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading the articles, but I am most stricken by the images. They are so vibrant and as for the old black and whites all I can say is they bring alot of memories to mind. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
I have now been following your site for over 6 months. I have enjoyed the mixture of history and modern culture and concerns. Everything is always well written and illustrated. I am retired military and appreciate the fact that you remember us year round, not just on Veterans’ Day. I wish you much continued success in the coming year!
Hi! I just wanted to wish you a Blessed New Year and let you know that I really appreciate the effort and hard work that must go into keeping this site so up-to-date and relevant. The images themselves are worth coming for, but I always learn something new when I visit. Thank you for your efforts!
Hi there! I’m at work browsing your site from my new iphone! Just wanted to say I love reading through your site and always look forward to all your posts! Now I am really excited because I can view it anywhere! Thank you for creating such a great mobile experience! Carry on the fantastic work!
Just wanted to wish yo a Happy New Year and thank you for the wonderful article on Kwanzaa! It had already begun and ended by the time I first read the article, but now that I realize it isn’t actually a conflict with my Christian belief and celebration of Christ’s birth, I am excited at the “togetherness” time it could give my family next year! Thank you again and have a GLORIOUS NEW YEAR!!!!!!
I have added you to my bookmarks because I admire the way you express your ideas and I like the variety of topics. I also appreciate that there is no celebrity gossip/hype/half-nude photos. Thank you for providing a tasteful publication.
A friend had posted a link to your article on his page on facebook and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate the time you have taken to help me better understand Kwanzaa. I have never seen so much information in one place. I had always thought it was a religious holiday that conflicted with Christmas. I now understand it is a celebration of who we are as a people, not a religious holiday at all. I am going to attend my friend who posted the link’s Kwanzaa feast. Thank you again for sharing.
I truly loved your site. I have bookmarked it in Stumbleupon and posted a link to the Kwanzaa article on my Facebook. I have never seen such a great explanation of Kwanzaa in all my years! I always thought I had to choose between it and Christmas and being a Christian that meant that celebrating Kwanzaa was not an option. I now realize that one is exclusive of the other. I had always believed it was a religious conflict, but now I realize it is not a religious celebration at all, but instead a unifying celebration of who we are, where we came from and what we have and can do collectively. I really cannot thank you enough for opening my eyes! May you be blessed in the new year and always!
I just finished reading the article on “What’s Wrong with America” and all I can say is AMEN!!!! I may not agree with every point, but it is refreshing to hear some one tell it like they see it, WITHOUT a political agenda. Thank you!
This is the first time that I have visited and like some of the readers commented before me, I do not usually leave comments either. However, I am compelled to tell you that this site is TRULY UNIQUE. I was looking for articles and information on the Black Heritage Trail all evening with very little luck finding anything interesting until I found you! Not only was the original article that brought me here on Birmingham interesting, so is the entire site! Thank you for sharing!
I just shared this site on my facebook page. This is the third time I have been here and have found something new and interestig each time. I think my friends will enjoy it as well. Thanks for such a great site!
Nice site. I learn something interesting everytime I visit. I am going to use your article on The Culture of Health as a reference in a write up I am doing on Black Health and Medical Issues. Naturally I’ll include a link to your site in my write up. Thanks for sharing.
I came across your site while looking for information on Juneteenth. I am putting together a piece for Black History month on different holidays and celebrations inspired by African Americans. I was shocked to see how vibrant and alive the site is. Most sites I have searched for information are very drab and are either like reading an encylopedia or have very basic alomost newspaper like visual effects. This site is anything but drab! I love the bold colors and the slideshow is absolutely unique and captivating. Thank you for such an interesting site. I now have you book marked and I WILL be coming back! Happy Holidays from Mississippi!
An associate of mine recommended your site on Facebook. I am really glad a clicked. I always take my family on a weekend trip in February to commemorate Black History month. We live in Illinois and I had no idea that St. Louis had so much to offer in refards to black history. not only will it be an interesting destination, it will be one of our most economical ones as well. It is close enough that we can drive verses having to fly everyone. Thanks for the great information!
Unique, interesting, vibrant… These are just a few of the words I would use if I were writing a review of this site. From its structure and color scheme to its content and images everything about this site is unique! My favorite feature by far is the slideshow! Its not only informative, but the images on it are vibrant and mostly would speak for themselves even if they did not have text descriptions accompanying them. Thumbs up all the way!!
Bonjour from Paris, France – We know that our English speaking readers will enjoy this site. This is why OurHeritageMagazine.com is now promoted on our ultimate cultural websites list! Congratulations! We know how much work it is to put together a quality site and you have done a magnificent job!
My family and I will be spending Thanksgiving in St. Louis and I was looking for things to do together for the few days we are there. I found your site in the process of searching for things to do and I just wanted to say this is a great site!! I watched the entire slideshow and felt like I had taken a journey through our past. The original article that brought me here was the one on Missouri and the Heritage Trail. I had no idea that St. Louis was part of the Heritage Trail. Thank you for helping me fill our itinerary and for producing such a great site!
I spotted one of your images when I was doing an image search and it intrigued me, so I came by to check it out. Glad I did. FYI – I also bookmarked this page on Digg.com so others can find it too.
I recently was referred to this site by a friend and admittedly took my sweet time about coming to see it. However, after he asked me for the 3rd time whether I had been here I thought I would give it a glance.Well, now it is 2 hours later and I have looked at every image and read every article and signed up for your newsletter. I am hooked!I will be watching my email for new updates! Thank you for giving our past a voice and the people of today roots to grow from!
I really like your website and your approach to our history and culture. We are a people that need to take more pride in what we have overcome and accomplished. This site reminds us of that.
I am loving the images here.I am a photographer and I know that images of this calibor don’t just happen and to find so many that tell their own story in one place is simply amazing.Thank you for sharing your collection.

Hello, Great job! This is my first time to visit the site. Fascinating stuff.
My compliments on a GREAT issue!
